We reviewed the interview with Ramin Fallah in the previous two articles,(part 1 & part 2) and we are at your service in this article.

Have you ever conducted any research on Imam Khomeini’s thoughts and ideas?

Ramin Fallah: My thesis subject for graduation was “Islamic Banking in Iran” and I extracted from Imam Khomeini’s books the juridical discussions. Since I studied Economics in university, I used Imam Khomeini’s thoughts and ideas.

Would you please describe a memory of you with Imam Khomeini?

Ramin Fallah: I knew Imam Khomeini since I was a teenager. Then, I used to promote his thoughts and opinions. I remember that at the second year of religious scholarship, I started promotion. That was because I thought that Imam’s thoughts and ideas should be disseminated. At that time, we distribute Imam Khomeini’s statements. It was one of my wishes to meet him and once my desire came true. It was an unforgettable day for me. Since the second year of religious scholarship, I followed Imam Khomeini’s thoughts, made my life based on his ideology and imitated his behavior. I try hard to follow his steps as long as I can.

What was the most important feature of Imam Khomeini that made our country people and even the Muslim community follow him?

Ramin Fallah: There were several positive features for Imam Khomeini one of which was his comprehensive ideas. Many scholars were expert in jurisprudence and they had no information about politics or philosophy. However, Imam Khomeini was experienced in jurisprudence, philosophy, mysticism and politics. Moreover, he had a pure soul. He never wanted good things for himself and his benefits but he defined everything based on his goals. In this way, he was sure that he fulfilled his mission. He never feared from anything and no barrier could stop him. When Imam Khomeini was in the plane to come back to Iran, he was asked about his feelings and he said: “I have no feeling!”. This is a very meaningful sentence. Imam Khomeini was leading a great movement and nobody knew what would happen to him when he came back home. He slept in the plane with complete comfort and expressed no feeling about the potential happening. He might mean that he had a religious mission and he fulfilled his responsibility, nothing more. And he expressed that he did not care about what would happen. Furthermore, Imam Khomeini always insisted that we should not follow him but his school. He said: “unfortunately, selfishness is a great slump for Islamic Revolution”.

What are other characteristics of Imam?

Ramin Fallah: The other characteristic of Imam Khomeini was that he cared about people. He believed in people’s power. He thought that everything would go well wherever people are present. He considered people and especially low-income population to be a bless for the society.

Before the revolution, I knew someone who were living in Mashhad and he thought that Imam Khomeini would lead the ship to be drawn because he believed that his simple approaches and people’s demonstrations had no outcome and people could do nothing. He reckoned armed war to be the only way ahead.

With total assurance, Imam Khomeini said: “people will do everything. The army is a fraction of the public”. And finally, everything happened as he had anticipated.

Imam Khomeini is an inimitable character.

Ramin Fallah: In brief, it can be stated that Imam Khomeini was a comprehensive character. He was simultaneously a politician, a pure man and a people-oriented leader. In 1981, I was studying Religious Science (before I started to study economics) and we had a course under the title of “political sciences”. Our teacher, a great professor in political sciences, said: “Imam Khomeini has introduced America as “The Great Evil” and this is the best representation of that regime’s characteristic”. Imam Khomeini did not study in any university and he did not have PhD degree in Political Sciences. However, in terms of political attitude and social perception, he was at a really great level. That’s why he was loved by people, especially the youth. A great work of him was that he provided a big theory for people and it was: “Religious Democracy”. In past, people were divided into two groups: Orientalism and Westernism. People were either revolutionist and communist or revolution-dissident and west-liker. It was believed that either west or east should be selected. The orientalists believed that religious is an opium for nations. They stated that belief in religion exhaust people. However, Imam Khomeini denied this thought with a revolution and its outcome. He proved that not only the religion is not an opium for nations, but also it can be a force for positive mutation if it is well perceived and understood. It can be stated that Islamic Revolution of Iran facilitated the down-fall of communism school in soviet union. The communists believed that religion is exhaustion, lethargy and welcome to cruelty. However, Imam Khomeini denied this thinking stream. Moreover, it was believed that the road to success passed from the West. Up to few years ago, some open-minded scholars reckoned that we should accept the culture of development before we started to develop. In their opinion, the culture of development was the culture of West. According to their perspective, religious government does not work because it is contrary to people’s culture and it prevent the society from development. Fortunately, Khamenei’s leadership denied this thought stream. Compare our country with those nations that have chosen the West. Compare our technologies, military force and national power with those of the other countries that are close to western nations and see where they are. Despite of hostility, sabotage and sanctions of west against us, we decreased the distance between our scientific level and that of other countries. We are experiencing great development in terms of nuclear energy, nanotechnology and stem cells knowledge. We have great economic problems but we are the 17th great economy of the world. These evidences suggested that it was wrong to assume western culture as a necessity for development and to consider religious regime as a barrier to advancement. Indeed, Imam Khomeini invalidated these thoughts and brought up a new ideology called “Religious Democracy”. This ideology could make us rely on ourselves and realize “We Can” slogan. This slogan came true not only in our country but also in other Muslim communities following Imam Khomeini. Nowadays, the arrogant states do fear from nuclear weapon-equipped Iran. They fear that the world someday actualizes the idea of religious democracy, that has been successful in Iran, and gets relief from the tether of slavery. Arrogant states try to prevent this idea from being successful.
